Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield

Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield will attempt to become the oldest fighter, at age 46, to capture a Heavyweight world title,

Holyfield, who lost his last world title to Lennox Lewis in 2000, has not fought since he lost to Sultan Ibragimov last year but feels he is in the best shape of his life.

BET NOW

He will step into the ring against Russian giant Nikoli Valuev on Saturday and the 46 year old American is confident of making a good show of his return to professional boxing.

Valuev has a far superior height and reach advantage over Holyfield who even on his best day is not the tallest of fighters.

However the Russian is quick to give credit and respect where it is due, stating that he fully respects Holyfield as one of the most experienced fighters in the world and that he is a fighter not to be underestimated.

While Holyfield has been pounding the heavy bag and doing everything to ensure he is in the best shape possible, Valuev has been taking a more relaxed approach.

The Russian mammoth apparently takes long walks, reads books and watches classic Russian films.

His last fight was in Berlin in August where he recaptured the WBA World Heavyweight title from John Ruiz, a title that he now puts up for grabs when taking on Holyfield.

Few could forget perhaps the most famous fight of all time when Holyfield had part of his ear bitten off by circus sideshow Mike Tyson.

It is doubtful that there will be any such antics in this latest fight.

2009 Australian Open Wild Card Entry

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Wednesday Dec 24th, 2008

Jelena Dokic’s comeback hopes have received a major blow after going down to little know sixteen year old Monica Wejnert at Melnourn Park yesterday.

The event is being held to determine which Australian tennis players will receive a wild card entry into the 2009 Australian Open to be held in melbourn next January and February.

BET NOW

The troubled tennis star, who at one staged reached the ranking of number four in the world, was out of sorts against the teenager who surprised everyone including herself with the 4-6 6-3 6-4 victory.

Wejnert only just this year began competing in open tournaments and proved she may have what it takes by reaching the quarter finals of a $10, 000 opens tournament in Thailand – her very first tournament.

She is also still eligible to play on the junior tour for another two years.

Dokic has signaled that this could well be her last chance to make it back to the big time after slumping to a career low 367 following a turbulent relationship with her estranged father Damir.

Earlier this year, Dokic severed all ties with her father and returned to Australia from her native Serbia Montenegro in an attempt to resurrect her career.

Dokic must now beat another teenager in Marija Mirkovic in the final match of the round robin to make the quarterfinals to be held this Friday.

The eventual winner in both mens and womens will be guaranteed a start in the first Grand Slam event of the year.

UK Reality TV Shows

After watching the climax to the UK’s X Factor I thought just what a breath of fresh air the show really is. Alexandra Burke’s performance in winning the final show and picking up the 1 million pound recording contract must go down as being one of the best Live TV shows in recent years.

BET NOW

Runners up JLS also put up a sterling performance and can by no means be upset at coming 2nd to such a talented singer in Alexandra, Eoghan the little Irish boy gave it is all but in the end had to settle for 3rd place but with a market out there for young and talented good looking Irish boys I am sure this is not the last time we will see him on our TV sets and the same thing can be said for JLS and a few other acts from this year’s contest.

Although the show has not gone by without any dodgy looking decisions regarding contestants leaving (Laura being the topic of many public votes to get her back in) I think the bookies will be happy with this year’s outcome. During the show we have had two red hot favourites with 1st Laura being touted as favourite when there were a lot of people still left in the show then after her exit we had the young and talented Dianne made favourite with lots of money going on her when the bookies made her odds on favourite.

Alexandra however has been like the Football team that is not talked about much and quietly comes up to pinch the silverware or in this case the mega money contract but in this case she truly deserves it and I expect big things from the girl.

Formula 1 on the decline

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Dec 9th, 2008

Honda yesterday left the Formula 1 world in tatters after becoming the latest team to let their intentions known and to pull out of the championship within the next six months just like the sister team of Honda did last year when Super Aguri who had engines supplied to them by Honda pulled out just before half way due to the serious lack of funds.

With the amount of money needed by teams to complete seasons nowadays it is no surprise to see teams struggling especially with the current global climate in serious trouble and when you put all the controversy of last season in Formula 1 with the Max Mosley scandal and the Racism in Spain directed at Lewis Hamilton I feel formula 1 is in real danger of becoming an extinct Sport in the next ten or so years if the people at the top do not get their heads together and quickly.

Another kick in the ribs for the Sport was the news that the Chinese Grand Prix in Beijing will be in threat after the 2010 race as the track organisers have said they are struggling to keep up with the costs of staging such a massive event.

British driver Jenson Button will also be looking for a new team but if he cannot find a seat in F1 will he call it a day or will he drop down the ranks to F3 because I fear a lot of drivers will be looking at this route in the not too distant future as the running costs are far less and teams do not seem to struggle in this form of racing.
